US-Japan Workshop on Needs, Priorities and Partnerships to Advance
Human-Centered Data for Resilience
A Virtual Engagement on Select Dates 17-26 October 2022
A virtual engagement to elicit community input and perspectives to chart a roadmap for possible future joint JST and NSF research opportunities to advance human-centered disaster resilience.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Despite the technological advances in modeling and simulation of natural hazards and their impacts on engineered systems and structures, disaster resilience is, at its heart, a matter of human resilience. The US and Japan have each made substantive disciplinary contributions to understanding different dimensions of this problem, yet now is a time where greater convergence not only between disciplines but nations is necessary to meet the challenges posed by disasters.
This virtual workshop brings together research communities that have been cultivated by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and US National Science Foundation (NSF) to advance more human-centered data for resilience (HCD4R). The workshop’s primary goal is to identify opportunities where US-Japan collaborations can uniquely advance a more human-centered approach to research on disaster resilience, identifying the data, research infrastructure and initiatives necessary for impactful partnership on this subject.
The workshop will yield a concise roadmap for possible future joint JST and NSF research opportunities around identified opportunity areas.
